Election Day

Good Morning, it's Election Day in the United States Virgin Islands and across the United States. Today votes are being cast at ballots across America to select the next President of the United States. Will President Trump keep his seat as President or will he be dethroned by the Biden/Harris duo. We will just have to wait and see what happens. In the Virgin Islands ballots are being cast to decide whether a Senator will remain in office or will be replaced by those who are anxious to take a seat in office to create a change. Either way those of us who are home and haven't voted or aren't voting will just have to await the outcome. I know one thing for is certain, the way America is at this current moment is tragic. African Americans are being targeted everyday simply because they're black, people who stand in unison with African American and stand to make a change are also being attacked. When will this rain of terror end? Will Biden bring a change or will he make things even more difficult than they were before? These are questions that we need answered. Over in the Virgin Islands things are going from bad to worse, we have killings almost ever weekend, motor vehicular accidents caused by drunk drivers and things are just been swept underneath the rug. We need people that will make real change not those that say they will effect change and when they're voted in forget their promise to the people. We're not political folks, but things need to change now. We're tired of seeing things stay the same, at some point things need to change. If you're a registered voter, please go out and vote to make a difference.

Virgin Islands most influential people in entertainment Part 1

People in entertainment have given and sacrificed everything to either put on a show, get their music out there, raise awareness of the arts etc. However these people have hardly gotten the recognition they deserved. We decided to put together a list of extraordinary people from the Virgin Islands who's talents aren't recognized as often as it should be. We would like to introduce you to a few people we've witnessed who have made extraordinary sacrifices to get to where they're at and those who have paved the way for others with the same dream as them to follow. This is just part one of a very big list of influencers.

R.City

Modifica immagini

R.City formerly known as Rock City or Planet VI, is a duo from St. Thomas U.S.V.I. This duo has been in the music industry for over 20 years. During their time in the industry they have managed to write and produce for some of pop culture music biggest stars. It hasn't always been an easy journey for the brothers, it takes a huge amount of obstacles to get where you are. Timo and Theron Thomas grew up in the Oswald Harris Court Projects. It wasn't easy for the brothers, who are now very successful artists/writers/ and music producers from the Virgin Islands. At one point in time they were sleeping on their friend's couch, and at a studio that their friend allowed them to crash at. All of the struggle and hardship they have faced is why they're the first on our list of the Virgin Islands most influential people. They continue to spread their influence through their music and social media. Theron who is the more vocal of the two uses his platform to give daily realness quotes, share laughs with his audience and what he as an individual is up apart from working with his brother. Timo uses his music to get the message he's trying to send across, even though they're a duo he often flies solo.

Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights

Modifica immagini

Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights is a Quelbe based group from the Virgin Islands. They were established in the 1960s. The band consists of 10 members, Stanley Jacobs, Harold SteinBrenner, Hugh Clark, Gilbert Hendricks, Kevin Christian, Devinci Valentino Francis, Eldred Christian, Kendall Henry, Herman Thompson Jr, Lauren Larson. The band first consisted of 6 members, who played instruments such as the steel triangle, squash (gourd rasp), flute, guitar, steel bass pan, and banjo. Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights have been an active band for over 50 years, during that time they have travelled the world trying to bring awareness to Quelbe music and the Virgin Islands culture, and have even been honored for their many years in the music business. They're a pillar in our community and music wouldn't be so inspirational if it wasn't for them. If you live in the Virgin Islands specifically St. Croix, around Christmas time which is also when we celebrate our festival. The band has tramps where they're playing live on a truck while driving through the different towns and having a massive crowd both young and old enjoying their sweet serenade. They are and will forever be one of the most influential people in our community.

Dj Mojo

Modifica immagini

DJ Mojo is a female dj from the Virgin Islands, Purveyor of feel good VIbes , in a judgment free, take your shoes off type of musical atmosphere.”

That’s how MoJo’ describes herself as a DJ.  Never afraid to go too deep, her emotive musical selections are her own therapy.  Having grown up in her father’s studio (Mountain Sounds & Vision, USVI), she was exposed to a combination of genres, to include reggae, soca, hip hop, and soul music...all which became infused with her own love for calypso, afro-beat, electronic, and pop music. MoJo’ ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence. Today, this translates into her live sets where she picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of this music that she loves best.  As an upcoming audio engineer, producer, fire dancer and performer she has found another way to express herself musically and overall artistically.  She produces her own mash-ups that pair seamlessly with artistic fire dancing videos of herself. Those videos reach a large audience of people via social media, as she shows the world what she’s really made of. MoJo’ has been working tirelessly in growing her business (MVEnt.), as she believes that a true entertainer and lover of the arts explores and expresses through many forms. We actually copied this from Dj Mojo's website because no one can describe Dj Mojo like Dj Mojo. Growing up you mostly saw men being djs, so to have a female Dj who leads the way so that other women can follow and not be ashamed is why is makes our influential list. (Quoted from Dj Mojo Official Website)

Gonglight Management co. & RLD Entertainment and Promotions

Modifica immagini

Modifica immagini

Gong Light Management co. has raised some eyebrows and turned some heads in the industry. Although they're fairly new, the owners and operators of the budding "Roc Nation" like entity are nor new to the entertainment world at all. Jun collaborated with Dwayne "Redman" Hodge and Ineke "Neekes" Hodge both of which are co owners of RLD Entertainment & Promotions. Dwyane is no stranger to local entertainment scene as he so eloquently burst into Virgin Islanders lives via social media with a fiery style of socil commentary. With a roster of 3 talented artist and a Rockstar producer at the helm, Gong Light shot out of a cannon fast with no signs of slowing down. In speaking with Dwayne about the day to day management duties of Gong Light, it was clear that it’s a task that requires a lot of time and attention. “Managing one artist is tough, so imagine 4 separate acts as well as others who are still developing their craft and working towards joining the roster officially!” “It’s difficult but very necessary, which is why we work as a team to ensure all angles are managed properly. Neekes as the “glue” to the operation, adds a feminine touch and a creative element of organization and administrative strength to the team. Collectively, we work together like a well-oiled engine, using our differing strengths and talents to build each platform according to who the artist is organically.” The roster consists of Mic Love who dominated social media timelines with “Rona” and “Me & You Alone”, King Lion Defuture - creating 3 much loved hits in 3 different genres with “Mango”, “I Like It” and delivering a much needed plea to the streets with his latest single “Every Day Is A Shootout”, and Priceless a BVI star who was officially introduced to the USVI’s market with his hit song “Butterflies” featuring Pressure BussPipe. In the midst of these artists, also managing the meteoric rise of St Croix born Producer Masai Harris which is a key factor in the development of the quality and sound of each talent. Just the way that they handle their artists, is one of the many reasons they've made it on our lists of influential. (Direct Quote from our old Interview)

Modifica immagini

Kruziano went from New Kid on the Block, to Virgin Islands sensation almost overnight. His music is so diverse you never know what to expect from this young artist. Love it or Hate it, and Everything Irie were his first hits and they basically describe the personality of the artist. Now with his latest single "World" he sings of spreading love to change the world even with the current pandemic, police brutalities in the mainland and protests for change. If that doesn't scream inspiration, we don't know what will. He dabbles in a little bit of everything, so he's very diverse as an artist. Kruziano continues to use his platform to spread love and affect change in the society we live today. He's managed by T40 Recordz, who takes his career as an artist very seriously, using various social media platforms to get the word out about Kruziano. He's one of the most viewed artist from the Virgin Islands currently on Youtube. Cruz Rock

Modifica immagini

Cruz Rock was born on the beautiful island of St. Croix, to his mother who is from Trinidad and his father is from Puerto Rico/St. Croix. As a child he was always fascinated with music and art and was naturally gifted especially at art. Cruz Bwoy was the original name and rock was added when he connected with a DJ Sound called T Rock Sounds from St. Thomas. It then changed to Cruz Rock. His career began when he received a scholarship to attend college as an artist after winning several awards for his work. He spent 5 years of his life in Ohio, attending the Columbus College of Art and Design. His first year in college, he began paying more attention to music. He was different from everyone else and all of his peers were intrigued by his island accent. They wanted to hear him sing Reggae music at talent shows and small events. At that time he never knew it would get that far. At the age of 19, he performed at a club in Ohio and impressed the local crowd and some promoters. One of them approached him about taking music seriously and eventually became his manager. He then introduced him to the bigger shows in Ohio and soon enough he was rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest acts in the state and international acts that came in to do concerts. A year later, he was approached by a Rap group called T.O.G. It consisted of about 30 members, who were using their talents to build a buzz around the city and beyond. Some of the artist were signed to major record labels and already been seen on MTV. They made a movement and while attending college he became a star in Ohio and other surrounding areas. Producers from Jamaica were sending him riddims to sing on after hearing his music. Eventually everyone wanted to get his flow on their record. He formed a small group  called the "Virgin Islands Pride" which consisted of some other artist from the Virgin Islands that lived in Ohio as well. Cruz Rock movement was big, but eventually he felt like he wanted bigger, he would have to leave Ohio. After graduating from college, he headed to Florida, where he spent a short time performing and creating new fans. Then he migrated to New York where he landed a job working behind the scenes for Tempo/MTV. It was a great job because he met influential people and at the same time, shared his music with them. Cruz Rock had access to music video producers and that would eventually turn into  him making his own videos.

Lima Roe: No Love Ft Rena Faith

Lima Roe, who is a local rapper has been on the scene for a minute now. She's a forced to be reckoned with and every project she has released has been absolutely mind blowing. Her newly released music video is no different. "Not Love" was released today, and features local singer "Rena Faith". The music video describes money not being the answer to everything, if you don't have love. You can see the women retaliating against a man in the video by basically kidnapping him and tying up and placing him in the back of a Jeep Wrangler. Money can buy alot of things, but what's all the money in the world without love. Trying to love someone who thinks money can fix everything is sadly mistaken. Tired of the antics the mystery man in the video is seen being dragged, and placed into a Wrangler then driven to an unknown location to be dealt with. When a woman has had enough she will lash out in the worse way possible, unfortunately you might just be collateral damage, do not try to fix everything by throwing money at the problem. If you love someone, love them unconditionally, and if its not working out make peace with it. You might pay dearly with you life. You can never get back the time that you lost in a hopeless relationship. Lima is currently being managed by Gong Light Management, & Marketing by RLD Management.

New Release: Blackest Buss Chest

Local Soca Artist "Blackest" is back with his latest single "Buss Chest," which was produced by super producer "Maestro." The artist puts an interesting spin, on Sundays at the national monument "Buck Island" which often times is referred to as Buss Chest Island." This summer the slogan Buss Chest quickly became a trend on social media. The masses would gather at Buck Island particularly during the weekend and enjoy the luxuries of living on an island. While having an uninhabited island nearby has its perks, it can often land people in hot water. The song basically pokes fun of the many instances has that occurred there and was heard about or seen on social media. The man in the scenario sees things that has him suspicious of this lady's actions while at Buss Chess Island, leading to heartbreak hence the "Buss Chess." To really get the feel of the newly released single, click the link below.

CoVid Era:How are Musicians&Artists surviving right now

We have been terrorized by Covid-19 for over 7 months now, and somehow have adjusted to life during this pandemic. Although it has been a tough transition for most, others have come to terms with our current situation. Musicians, Artists, Promoters, Club Owners, Djs etc have made a living booking live performances, touring and providing that feel good music we all enjoy. However the pandemic has put a damper on everything that gives an artist their identity. This past April St. Thomas Carnival along with several other Carnivals in the Caribbean has been cancelled or postponed. Artists are hosting performances live on their social media to keep their fans spirits alive. Everyone is working on putting out new content and creating out of the box ideas, however we are curious about how our artists are surviving. Many of our Virgin Islands artists have families, so if they're not touring or performing at various functions how exactly are they getting by during these difficult times? A few artists are only doing music part time, while for others its a full time job. We're kind of aware of what some of our local artists are currently up to, but for the ones in the mainland we're just wondering how are they keeping up with our current situation we've been faced with. Club owners, promoters, musicians, producers are faced with the same dilemma, this pandemic has put a dent in their way of a live. You go from doing something everyday or every week to reminiscing what was. Honestly we're all ready for this nightmare to be put to be rest and get back to the good times.

New Release: Sarai Yana Wap Remix

Virgin Islands female rapper Sarai Yana has returned to the rap scene with a brand new banger. The music video premiered on August 28, 2020 on her YouTube Channel and has already received amazing reactions from viewers. Her fashion, hair and everything in between were super chic. The artist put her own twist on the #1 trending song in America right now. Just like the original version of W.A.P, this remix has a few explicit language, but is super catchy which makes it just the right remix to add to your playlist right now.

Sarai Yana is known for her extremely raw talent and impeccable style. We expect nothing less from this incredible talented artist and hope to see more projects like this in the future. Our favorite line from the W.A.P remix is Don't get it confused I'm the Ape and you're the Baboon. What a way to make a reappearance to the music scene. Welcome back Sarai Yana.

Virgin Islands Featured Management Company: Gonglight Management co.

As I look across the landscape of the entertainment industry in the Virgin Islands, it brings a smile to my face. Seeing its exponential growth over the last several years from artists, to bloggers, online radio shows and podcast, to social media personalities - the Booka Comedies and the Adam O’s (to name a few) has kept us engaged and abreast with Virgin Islands entertainment in countless ways. In the midst of all this growth, a new brand of management has found its way on to the entertainment scene. From their relentless marketing strategies and various talented acts, Gong Light Management Co has raised some eyebrows and turned some heads in the industry.

Though fairly new to the trade, the owners and operators of the budding “Roc Nation” like entity are not new to the entertainment world at all. Jun Romney, owner of Rebel Gong Movements - a decade old successful events and promotions entity based in Atlanta, GA is responsible for some well-known branded events such as “EPIC”, “Bliss”, “Gold”, “Caution” and many more go-to socialite experiences. Jun collaborated with Dwayne “Redman” Hodge and Ineke “Neekes” Hodge, both of which are the co-owners of RLD Entertainment & Promotions – formally Redlight Distrikt. Like Jun, Dwayne is no stranger to the local entertainment scene as he so eloquently burst into Virgin Islanders lives via social media with a fiery style of social commentary. Both on and off the cuff of humor, he successfully created a platform for social change and marketing opportunities for local businesses and budding artists alike. The two who were already friends also share a close relationship with International reggae star Pressure BussPipe. They gained a surplus of knowledge and understanding of the business through their exposure in working with the touted Reggae artist. Their knowledge and know how birthed the idea that creating a strong support system for VI artists may open doors for the territory and create a lane for talents to be granted the same opportunities of success as their counterparts in the mainland. As a result of this, Gong Light Management Co was born. Intentionally molded in the image of its inspiration - Roc Nation, Gong Light set out to change the landscape of how Virgin Islanders are introduced to artist and how talents present themselves in this modern top-heavy internet era.

Dwayne “Redman” Hodge who is locally known and is the more public personality of the trio, often speaks of his counterpart “Jun” as a humble character who shies away from the limelight and is very result driven in nature. “He’s always very attentive to detail and finds most of his joy in watching the artist receive the recognition that they deserve” says Redman. When asking Redman what roles they all play his response was simple, " interchangeable!”. He states, “If Neekes comes to the table with an idea for the artist and we all see it, the rest of us fall into support roles while she leads and vice versa. There are no bosses at Gong Light, just 3 passionate individuals focus on putting out the best possible work in hopes that the public will enjoy the product” .

Aside from entertainment, the trio are each somewhat social activist within the community themselves. With Neekes leading marches on WAPA recently , Dwayne with his Social media commentary on social issues and Jun with his often-subtle approach working with local businesses such as “My Brothers Workshop” and his mindful positive posts urging his followers to #payattention in their day to day engagements. Due to their personalities and drive, Gong Light is deeply rooted in the community and committed to positive overall change in the Virgin Islands. The organization believes strongly in giving back to its community and encourages the same with each of the talents they manage. Redman touts, “It’s important that as artists they have something that they advocate for – its not only about the music- If you are not using your craft to create change and impact the people around you then its really just a hobby”. Recently the organization, along with their artists King Lion and Mic Love donated a check to “My Brothers Workshop” in order to assist with their vision of giving youths a second chance at life by teaching them trades and skills they can rely on. “Gong Light is always looking for opportunities to work with local charities and organizations to propel the community forward”. Dwayne stated, “Every day we ask the community for support, it would be irresponsible to get and not pay it forward”.

One would think a company born in the heart of the Covid-19 global pandemic would find it difficult to find their footing, but its owners suggested that it only helped to expand their creativity and add more tools to their arsenal. Though humble about their quick start and progressive growth, they remain excited and eager for the world to open up to showcase the Virgin Islands on the highest levels afforded to them. “These artists deserve it! They constantly remind me of their eagerness with their work ethic and their desire to succeed. They are all easy to work with and have upbeat attitudes and get-it-done” drive” says Dwayne of their current talents. After being asked what to look out for next, the Colorful co-owner said "Kaieem Deh Dream" another BussPipe artist that's signed to Gong Light who has a world of potential and is just waiting for the right time to engage him with the public – timing is everything. “And there is always more, even aside from the artists on our roster, we still work with countless talents to assist with marketing strategies, content creation, creative direction and press to name a few”.

Dwayne never shies away from giving the BussPipe record label a lot of love and honor for their continued support and belief in the trio’s vision. He indicates his hopes of others feeding off of their energy and being inspired to take the same technical approach the fans deserve, with the effort and commitment needed to deliver quality production and engaging marketing. He states lastly that “It takes a village – collaborations create the village necessary to foster the realistic idea of success, not just as separate entities, but as a community on a whole. The more we collaborate using our strengths, the stronger we become – VI Strong!”

New Release: Jubal Drops his Latest Single "Miss You"

Recording artist "Jubal" has just released his latest single that really hits close to home. The title of the song is "Miss You" and it's dedicated to all the friends that he's lost recently. The visuals begin with imagines and objects to show respect to those who have passed.

He describes the friendships he's shared with the individuals in the pictures above and how they came from nothing as children and now they're making something of themselves. There were constant communication between the artist and his friends. He praised them for their accomplishments. Only to receive the news of a passing.

It's a hard pill to swallow when you lose someone so suddenly, no one truly knows the pain someone endures when they've suddenly lost someone whether its a motor vehicular accident, gun violence or just sudden death. You're surrounded with constant reminders of the person/people. Over the past couple months we've been witnessing sudden deaths with no explanation, leaving the family and friends little to no time to process what has happened.

Have you ever sat down and reminisced of the moments you've shared and think to yourself, when was the last time I spoke to that person or even seen them. It's a hard pill to swallow when you've lost someone so suddenly and will never see them again. The pain is sometimes unbearable. Things will never be the same again. He pours out a shot of Hennessy to honor the fallen!!

Miss You is dedicated to anyone who's ever lost someone suddenly...R.I.P to the fallen.

"Miss You" focuses on the four friends who can be seen being displayed in the background of the video.

Dedicated To:

  • Angel Bermudez

  • Aswad Velazquez

  • Euclyn Prentice

  • D'Quan Prentice

Although we're entertainment bloggers, you cannot attend an event, or since the pandemic, do your daily routines or whatever is done in your spare time without clothes can we? We have a Clothing Brand as well and we're aware of the struggles it takes to run a business. From Financially, to mentally dealing with customers from different walks of life, to negative commentary at times. We've all been there, but something I noticed while I was doing research into the different brands is, searching for Virgin Islands Brands through the Search engines or even through Facebook isn't as easy as you think. If you don't follow the business you know very little about that person or their product. That didn't sit right with us so we decided to do something about. Although there might be so much more that we're unaware of, we hope that you guys are satisfied with this. It may not be your style, suggest to a friend, give them a share or a like or follow. Show your true Virgin Islands support. The businesses above would be nothing without the support of their customers, family and friends. We've gathering Clothing brands from The entire Virgin Islands so check them out, most them have their websites attached or look out for them on Facebook. Everyone has their unique style, some might say everyone is selling T-shirts, but if you take a step back and look at it, they're 100 sites with the same product online and we still shop from those sites. What's the difference, in the Virgin Islands. Everybody brings their own creativity to the table and it should be applauded and celebrated.

Virgin Islands Featured Artists: Denver Straker Jr

Denver Straker Jr. is our latest featured artist, who previously went by the stage name "Nuggetz." The name originated from his time in the Rising Stars Youth Steel Orchestra in the summer of 2011. When he was first introduced he was on a first name basis only. It was given to him as "Nuggets" but he decided to change the "S" to a "Z." In later years while still being apart of the Rising Stars family he received the opportunity to play for various artists around the Virgin Islands. Straker then decided to take things up a notch when he was informed that many of our successful artists in the VI started of being apart of The Rising Stars. (Swanks, Pollo, Aj Ventura, Pancho, etc). In the summer of 2014 he began gathering a group of individuals to create a band (Futuristik or FAO for short). The group went through their fair share of down falls and misguidance over the years. However in 2016 they were fortunate to have encountered "Kleon Gaskin" who they referred to as pops to lead them in the right path. Soon Futuristik became a well known teen band. Every teen event offer they received they accepted the opportunity to perform. They also participated in The St.Patrick's Day Parade and the Crucian Christmas Festival Children's Parade. In 2017 we were devastated with two back to back hurricanes, and in turn majority of them band's members decided to relocate to the mainland. Denver and Lincoln "Links" Duncan Jr. were the last members standing. As their senior year passed them by, no events were being held as much until it was graduation season. Suddenly he and "Links" were invited to perform at an event. It was an unfamiliar feeling performing without the rest of the gang. They were labeled as a Duo after that performance. Later that year he "Straker" moved to the United States to full fill his military career. He was constantly asked about his music involvement from numerous fans upon moving. Denver came up with the bright idea that he should make a music group again. That's when HQ42 (Head Quarters 42) was born, he made this group, because he realized that youths his age are never given that chance to really showcase their talents. In May of 2019, the artist visited home on vacation, he and Links dropped an Ep together called #AWLWU (Ah Whole Lotta Wuk Up. This was the perfect time to introduce the HQ42 to the Virgin Islands while they were being interviewed on Bush Tea and Palm Trees. Trevor Saldana was then introduced as the manager. Davenee #DTD James was also introduced. Denver also changed his name from Nuggetz to Nuggz to fit a more sophisticated lifestyle.

On this project he had the opportunity to work with one of the former band members, Jecoix “Guzzo” Gittens, as he produced 2 of 4 songs. On this EP he had Tyriq “Riiqo” Derima (Producer) and Gilbert “Gillos” Roberts (Singer). As the year progressed, the artist worked with many off and on producers. They then presented their first single as a group “Carnival Mood” for the Crucian Christmas Festival 2019-2020 where Denver had the opportunity to perform it with SAVAGE FESTIVAL on King Street. Also, he was a part of a compilation produced by Dorian “Baby Musik” Euzebe, where he wrote a song, Too Young, portraying the message that he has behind HQ42. HQ42 is growing every day, and they can’t wait to introduce the new content and members. The best things about being an artist is being enabled to connect with fans and spreading a message that is always talked about and never executed. “Give the Youth Man them the mic.” was once said by R. City. Difficulties that he has faced as an artist is the lack of resources and guidance people are willing to give. He solely feels like whenever someone has something going for them, they tend to forget that they were in the same shoes once upon a time. Also, we as a particular age group are already looked at with the mindset that our music isn’t up to par with other artists in the Virgin Islands or shouldn’t be heard. His best performance is a hard decision between Denver's first performance ever with KM1 during a spring break play out and recently an international competition “Soca IG Star Live” where he placed 5th overall. It's very hard to choose. People the artist looks up to would have to be Pumpa, Erphaan Alves, and Teddyson John. He mostly picked up most of his clothing style from Pumpa. In May 2019 when he was traveling from home, and he came in contact with Erphaan Alves, his music is mostly from an underdog perspective which somehow defines him. Teddyson John his style of music inspired to write the way he writes because, instead of just writing nursery rhymes, he actually creates stories that people can relate. As for what inspires him would have to be his WHOLE family, because once upon a time they thought his music involvement was a joke. Hearing them now saying that they’re PROUD of what he's doing and the message he's spreading is to LIVE FOR! COVID-19 affected both my team and I,(Quotes from Denver Straker Jr.) in ways that we couldn’t expand with the plans and goals we had set for the year 2020. On the bright side, social media (Instagram) has been good to me, being a part of a Trini based Competition. The artist Placed 5th Overall and that achievement alone had a great effect on my music career. Denver was only 1 of 2 outsiders that made it pass the preliminary round. Then he was the only outsider to make it to the finals. After COVID he and the team has their eyes set for the next carnival season, starting with St. Croix. They also made connections with the 3rd place winner of the Soca IG Star Live, Sackie the Artist, down in Trinidad and they have much music on the way together. Follow them on All Social Media Platforms. Facebook: HQ42 Instagram: @hq42team Soundcloud: HQ42 STAY TUNED FOR CARNIVAL GIVEAWAYS.

Gods Don’t Die: By Neka Neekes

Remembering A God

Controversy knows no bounds…it knows no limitations; It is the perfect balance between truth, pain, and comedy. Whether you knew him by his lives, his chip toothed smile, his catchy Dr. Seuss like flow, his many tag lines, or his charismatic bop, one thing is for certain - love him or hate him, you can never forget him.

Khamal, known by many as “Petty God” or often times just “Deh God”, was an up and coming music mogul under GongLight Management Co from the USVI, and was a controversial public figure without a doubt. I’ll never forget my first time running into one of his lives many years ago which were often times the equivalent to a virtual crowded room. He was somewhere in Florida and I couldn’t understand how I could sit on any live for over an hour with the same level of energy and attention as when it started - often times holding in my laughter to avoid disturbances at work. He lived life on his own terms and as controversial as he was, you couldn’t help but to laugh at the comical way he would often draw perspectives beyond the box of societal norms and thinking. More often than not, he expressed the very things that we all think and feel, but never have the right words to say. But, here’s the thing about controversy…..

Its raw…uncut…unfiltered…and unapologetic; all of which perfectly depict the essence of this young mogul.

Whether you agreed with his views and opinions or not, you knew you could always count on him to speak his truth. Something that I for one, will always appreciate and value from the redbone dude from Tutu who’s always rhyming with the color blue.

When RLD Entertainment & Promotions was born in early 2018, he was right on board with the vision. Pushing, supporting, and partaking in anything we had to offer to the public. Long before he even took himself seriously as an artist, he was vested in quality music and influencing the masses with music from upcoming local talents.

Fast forward to his musical career, I remember when I got the call one afternoon from Dwayne Hodge, publicly known as “Redman” or “Red Angel” stating:

“I’m bout to send you two numbers, we have some work to do…with this particular artist, we have to allow him to do it his way and on his terms. I’ve fought with him a lot to even get started so we have one shot to get this right!”

Modifica immagini

One of the numbers sent was for Jawfy Joe who believed in the vision so much he was willing to collaborate with RLD and put up whatever it would take to give this raw talent a chance. Tho other being for Deh God himself, and I was proud to know that the artist was him. We spent months drafting concepts, building content, branding, and coordinating a promising path for his future. One day while he was on his way to a scheduled performance in Florida…all of it got put to a screeching halt. Controversy had caught up with Deh God himself. Weeks past and the mantra “Free Deh God Until Deh God Free” replaced the presence of the controversial public figure online. Silently we continued to work and build content, but even after his return to the world-renowned blue app, we would never get the chance to hit “GO” on this young moguls career.

As the second eldest son of “Whadablee”, he often joked that he could never escape his inherited ties to music and often revered at the fact that his parents came out to witness his first ever live performance. With singles such as “Doubted me” & “No Fakes” he organically generated over 800,000 un-marketed streams on SoundCloud in under a year - proving that his potential was unprecedented to say the least. Still, most of his energy in music went into bridging the gap between rival neighborhoods while simultaneously connecting the British Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands musically. He was well known for pushing and supporting BVI artists such as “Priceless” & “Da General” alongside USVI artists such as “P-Nut Deh Real Nut, UYG Flizop, “Deh Wapp”, “Dapp Deh Youngin”, “BZB”, “Cash”, & “Deh Dramaz,” to name a few. In his lives he would often “Leak” upcoming releases for the public to hear and weigh in on the creativity, wordplay, and intoxicating vibe of what I like to call “Kulcha Rap”. It’s a unique form of creative expression rooted in survival, hustle, and the laws of the land – delivered in raw Virgin Islands twang. Virgin Islands culture is expressed in many forms and this young legend was known for many things, but his influence and unspoken contributions to the Virgin Islands Music Industry will take the game by storm for years to come!!

Khamal, in our last convo a few days ago, you told me you really don’t believe there is any happiness left in this life and that it seems like despite all the good, there is even more bad. True or not, you committed your life and energy to creating a lane for Virgin Islands Hip Hop artists to be heard and represented. Even in international markets, you had a following that adored you and loved to display that love for and to you in countless ways! You touched a generation of kids that truly see you as a God musically, so for me, I feel like life and happiness (much like this article) is more about where you put your focus. It was always a joy “vibing” with you on a real level the way we did. The team and I genuinely appreciate you for riding with RLD Entertainment & Promotions and now GongLight Management Co through and through. This was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever written knowing we were just really getting started back on paving your path after facing so many trials.

To the family, fans and all those who have been affected, we extend our deepest condolences and respects. He may not have been always right, but he was always unapologetically real. To the public, If he touched your life in anyway, read this 2X and drop some blue signs!!

Till we meet again, we will keep your fire burning and it’s always “see you later” because in all actuality…

Here are the list of the top soca artists in the Caribbean on this riddim. Adam O, Mic Love, Pumpa, King Lion DeFuture, and of course Marvelus. from the other Caribbean islands we have artists such as King James from St.Martin, Ricardo Drue who represents for Trinidad, and Fadda Fox is representing for Barbados. The Big Body Riddim has many layers of melodies, percussions and is complemented with sultry guitar groove which was performed by Kyle Peters (Quoted by Marvelus). This created a foundation for some of the Top Caribbean Soca artists. Each of the artists on this riddim has brought their own style into the mix. Making the entire riddim one huge success. Marvelus Production Team is a Music Producer/ Song Writer from the Virgin Islands and has produced some of the most extraordinary projects in the Soca industry. Mic Love is a Virgin Islands artist and is known to the public for his hits such as VI to the Bone, and most recent his snippet from Rona which became a viral song in no time. We're currently going through a worldwide pandemic, Swanks/Marvelus sent him the beat. At that time he was preparing for the carnival on St. Thomas, then the Corona came at us at full swing and carnival was postponed. While watching the news about the Corona Virus, he decided to come up with a creative out of the box method for Ms.Rona to get the message across. So Rona would be compared to a person and she's the only one that can come over during this pandemic. He posted some snippets online and before long it went viral, it made its way all the way to Trinidad. Before long the video received over 500,000 views. Swanks reached out and orchestrated the dialogue between the artists. Mic Love is represented by Gong Light Management co. There are alot of people on the riddim so it took some time to release, but the time is almost here. It's now streaming on all digital platforms. (Direct Quotes from Mic Love)

King Lion DeFuture is a Reggae/Dance Hall artist from the Virgin Islands and is also represented by Gong Light Management co. He's best known for his recent hit Mango ft. Pressure Busspipe and "It's You."Pressure Busspipe was originally supposed to be on the track,he was then contacted to jump on this riddim. His "I Like It" track focuses on being in the club and seeing people having fun and what not and he likes seeing that. This opportunity is a blessing for him, King Lion DeFuture would like to thank his management team Gong Light Management co and Swanks from Marvelus Production Team. Looking forward to the riddim that is now streaming on all digital platforms. (Direct Quotes from King Lion DeFuture)

Ricardo Drue was born in the Village of Fort Road in Antigua, at the age of 4, he moved to San Fernando, Trinidad. He's best known for his hit single Vagabond. Ricardo was contacted by Kevy Kev (Marvelus Management Team) to hop on this project that is presented before you today. He was sent the project and the music had a natural energy and vibes to it, so he decided to be apart of the project. At that time he didn't know who was apart of the project except for Adam O and Mic Love. Collaborating on the project was pretty easy, Swanks and Kevy Kevs were open in terms of communicating and how they feel, doing alot of the mix and making sure the mixes were just right. they very easy to work with. Collaborating with some of the VI artists, right now Adam O is one of his favorite artist, he likes what he's doing, the music he produces and the creativity behind alot of things that Adam O does. This artist song is called "Lucky" and he's very confident in his song. It's very different to the way people usually sing Soca, he likes to put alot of character and Charisma into his songs and the way he delivers them. Ricardo Drue is very confident about it and he can't wait. It's not streaming on all digital platforms. (Quoted by Ricardo Drue)

King James is a Soca artist from the island of St.Martin and is best known for his hits "Never Have I ever" featuring Jamaica Superstar Shenessa and "Meet Me by The Bar." He has known Swanks for sometime now through the music scene. King James first ran into Swanks (Marvelus) aboard the UberSoca Cruise and exchanged words about possibly working together. Following this Swanks reached out to him, sharing with the artist that something was in the works (The Big Body Riddim). Marvelus spoke of possibly of having King James jump on the track. Upon hearing the riddim, he immediately thought to himself (yooo this riddim is hard) and the rest is history and brings us to this point of realization. In terms of what can be expected of his track "Sugary" he can simply say it's sweet! It's one for the Honey's to enjoy, a good song and in that make them feel extra special. It's about recognizing that within one's self that they are good enough. The track is energetic and groovy, and appeals to all of the ladies both young and old. It's now streaming on all digital platforms. (Direct Quotes from King James)

Fadda Fox is a Reggae artist from St. George, Barbados. He's best known for his hit singles "Ducking" and "Dirty Habits." Passed hits have led us to believe that this hit will be among his many brilliant hits. Marvelus a brilliant music producer from the Virgin Islands and is the mastermind behind of these projects and has brought a group of powerful artists together to make one big summer hit. He's basically telling a woman don't mind anyone because her pretty looks kill them. Her haters are basically jealous, she shouldn't pay them any mind. Although we were unable to reach Fadda Fox for comment we're confident that this is going to be a banger. Its now streaming on all digital platforms.

Modifica immagini

Adam O is a Virgin Islands artist and although he's known for several bangers, he's best known for Sexy Dance & Wine and Dip. Adam O and Marvelus have collaborated on numerous hits so this is guaranteed to be another one of them. We're positive that Properlay is no different. Adam O has been promoting this riddim on social media, and from the preview we received from his social its already a hit. When we interview Ricardo Drue, he mentioned Adam being one of his favorite artist from the Virgin Islands, simply because of his creativity to get his music and craft out there. Adam O is one of our heavy hitters in the Virgin Islands and has represented us well thus far. He wants to handle it "Properlay."Everything he's doing is going to be done "Properlay." This collaboration is not only comprised of Virgin Islands artist, but other heavy hitters within the Caribbean. Properlay is going to be yet another fan favorite. The Riddim has officially dropped, while writing the article so we decided to include that in here. Its now streaming on all digital platforms.

Modifica immagini

Pumpa is a Virgin Islands artist and a living legend in his own right. He has many hits so it's hard to narrow it down. His greatest hits if we had to narrow it down would be "She Got the Juice" & "Ayayay."Handsfree" basically starts of by saying Corona is in the air. For those who have been to an event, dancing with a young woman you know the drill. The song basically describes she wants him to dance with her but he has to do it hands free. Pumpa is another one of our heavy hitters in the Virgin Islands and represents us with pride and dignity. Before finishing the song however he doesn't forget to give a shout out to "Swanks". Pumpa has joined forces with some of the Caribbean's heavy hitters as well the one best and well known Music Producer out of the Virgin Islands to bring us yet another hit during these trying times. "Handsfree" is now streaming everywhere.

Marvelus Production Team continues to break barriers and prove just why he deserves a spot among the many living legends in the Virgin Islands as well as the Caribbean. Marvelus and his team executed everything to a T, and the proof is in the riddim. The Big Body Riddim now streaming everywhere.
