VI Meets New York City:Labor Day Weekend

This past weekend was another milestone for a few Virgin Island artist. Labor Day was celebrated in the Big Apple "New York City,"with several activities. Among the artist who were present and representing the VI were Adam O, Mic Love, Pumpa, and Ruby Live. The Dept of Tourism sponsored the Caribbean Cultural festival to make it all possible. Our artists keep reaching newer heights everyday and we wish them nothing but success. Mic Love shined across Television screens in New York City with a performance on Fox 5 news " with his hit single "Vi to the Bone" He then graced the stage in Houston and killed the performance. VI to the Bone was produced by Maestro and A.j. Ventura and is the new VI anthem, Virgin Islanders everywhere are in love with it. Adam O had an exciting labor day weekend as well as he graced a few stages to give amazing performances to Virgin Islanders stationed in "The Big Apple." It's safe to say his performances were quite successful from the crowds reaction. Pumpa as usual rocked the crowd with some of his greatest hits. Rudy Live has been promoting her music stateside and also bringing more awareness to VI artists as well. These activities were covered by none other than "The Virgin Islands Consortium," who continually provides us with coverage of everything news/media/entertainment related. We can say that labor was a very successful time for the VI.

Authors Opinion: Taking our artists to the next level

We live in the United States Virgin Islands, people don't often don't know where we're located in the Caribbean, but nevertheless we still try to make our presence known. I'm writing this blog specifically today, because I have some deep concerns. We have so many talented minds in the Virgin Islands and they are overlooked, not taken seriously and not to mention taken for granted. There are so many talented people on the island, both musically and otherwise. Our artists go else where to produce music, receive insight from other music experts, even their music videos are shot elsewhere. Our artists are also very under minded in their own home until they make it then they're celebrated because they're famous now.

We need a strong music industry that can do it all. It's true that artist have to push their craft, but how is the world going to see them if we don't continually push them. We need to have more resources on island to develop our artist, their managers do an amazing job and they tour the Caribbean and other places in the Mainland. However we want and need them to be worldwide, we have Reggae, Soca, our version of Calypso, even Rap. It's true our artist have to do the work, but they've already been doing that, so what's really the issue now. Music is an essential part of our culture, and it's need to be respected more. Bob Marley a reggae artist from Jamaica was known worldwide, because Jamaica has built their up artist and themselves countless times. I may have gotten of topic, but I think you guys get the point. From the day I began writing I've preached about the importance of our music industry, I'm just hoping that it actually sticks. The United States Virgin Islands needs a strong Music back bone. Our artist go to Atlanta, Jamaica, and any place that could assist with getting their music to the next level. I wish I could do something more about it, but for now this is all I have. Without mentioning anyone's name I believe our artist are overlooked and why is that, no one has a proper explanation. Change needs to happen immediately or grow overtime either way something needs to happen.

Regal Dynasty: Presents Apocalypse for Festival 2019-2020

This past weekend, Regal Dynasty presented their 2019-2020, festival costumes. This year's theme is Apocalypse, and they came definitely came to slay. The different sections of this troupe each describe a unique story. The picture displayed to the top is just one of the many amazing costumes they have in store for you. They presented their line with style, grace and class, what stood out the most for us was when the plus sized model was presented. As we all know plus size people aren't as represented as they should, This young woman definitely represented on the runway of Aqua Lounge " A local night club on island. This event was long awaited for, an definitely didn't disappoint. The crowd was very pleased with what was presented and most registered that same evening. The night didn't end there however, the after party kicked of with "Hypa Aktiv Krew" a local popular band on island. Their performance was followed by Big Band formally known as The Stylee Band, featuring performances from Mic Love (An Artist from St. Thomas U.S.V.I) Adam O ( Local artist on St. Croix U.S.V.I), and Bugz Bugs ( local entertainer, and Rapper on St. Croix U. S V. I). Followed by a performance from Shaw HP ( local artist from St. Thomas U. S.V.I). All in all the event was a success and from our team to Regal Dynasty's team good luck for the upcoming festival season.

We Present to you Artist Takeover

We decided to turn the tables and have an artists take over, that's right these 3 incredibly talented artists are going to be taking over hosting this Tuesday at 7pm. Tune in to check out the shenanigans that these 3 can get into. This is just one of the ways we at St. Croix Entertainment Today chose to shine a light on some of the artists on St. Croix. Mpresz Blackk is the newest artist to hit the entertainment scenes and what better way to welcome her than a takeover. Niza X is a raw talent and a force to be reckoned with. Junior Sparks is talented, raw and isn't afraid to be himself. These 3 are shining a light on the rap game in the Virgin Islands. We have soca and calypso (our version of it at least), take center stage, but rap has been around now their pushing to get it further and more out there. Personally we chose these 3, because we know their talent is going to take them so many amazing places and we're rooting for them. Having an artist take over is a first time experience for us so we're super excited, we can't wait.

Sharkey's Invasion Review

Renaissance Promotions and Top Notch Crew hosted Sharkey's Invasion end game on July 20th 2019. This event was one of the most entertaining and sold out one of the summer. Djs from St. Thomas and St. Croix collaborated together for one successful night. This was renaissance 5th year of hosting this event and we must say you did a marvelous job. It was a hot topic in more ways than one, on top of that it seemed to be sold out which is always a plus for any successful promoter in the Virgin Islands. The crowd was hot in more ways than one, some even took to the stage to express their enjoyment. There was even a performance by local singer Lima. Renaissance Promotion we applaud you for a job well done and we look forward to another amazing event down the line.

TGod Promotions: Tsunami 3 Review

Last evening was Tsunami 3, St. Croix's very own Wet Fete for the summer hosted by T God Promotions. This event had paint, a pool, water guns and more. If you missed this event you missed a really good time. There were people on literally on their heads, the different artists of the night killed their performances, and their were no violence, no fighting, no accidents and everybody arrived safely home. The bands in which performed were Choke off Squad, Hypa Aktiv Krew and Big Band Ft. Mic Love, Bugz Bugs, Pumpa and Adam o. Security was tight at the door, the drinks were flowing constantly and quickly and not to mention there were 2 water trucks, the crowd was absolutely insane. Overall for our first Tsunami we had the best time. Big Band being the last band of the evening left the crowd wanting more per usual. Their flow was on another planet.Choke Off Squad engaged with the crowd, their female fans in particular enjoyed a dance off and Hypa Aktiv Krew, always shows us why they are on of the best younger band in the music game currently. For anyone who attended this event and didn't have a good time, no offense, but you didn't attend. There were only positive vibes on the grounds of Pueblo parking. Big congratulations to T God Promotions for hosting yet another successful event, we can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. It was like a movie last night, we just want to watch it over and over again. This event receives a 10 out of 10, TGod Promotions and crew did their thing, our only question is when is the next Tsunami, we're already there.

Island Vybz: Sunny Side Up Brunch Review

This is our review of Sunny Side up Brunch which occurred this past weekend. This was the second Sunny Side up brunch, but this one wasn't just for invited guests, it was for everyone to attend. The guests began to arrive in their amazing attire and most stopped at this beautiful back drop that's seen above to take a quick picture, then make their way into the venue. The venue was the same set up as the last brunch, but beautiful nevertheless. Music was provided by non other than Supa Trakz Intl, who catered to everyone's needs by dropping hit after hit that afternoon. The food was amazing as usual although it was provided by a different caterer, it as still delicious. There were a variety of food present, reaching all of the attendees needs. The mimosa's were flowing from the moment you walked into the venue until it was time to purchase them at the cash bar. Island Vybz promotions with the unlimited mimosa's definitely had the scene on fire. All in all it was a good time and the entertainment scene is picking up more and more on the island of St. Croix, it's quite amazing actually. Let's keep the entertainment scene going like this. Junior Sparks local rapper and part owner of Gas Lamp VI made an appearance during the brunch. Another local Virgin Islands celebrity appearance was made Majestic Entertainment VI very own Ivor Chiverton. Also local famous photographer Reemy Reemz Photography was on the scene taking fantastic pictures as usual which will be out soon. Job well done Island Vybz Promotions looking forward to much more from you in the future.

Featured Musicians: YGT The Band

This evening we interviewed YGT The Band at The Mon Bojou community center and we got to know quite a few things about them. The band consists of 8 members currently the picture above has 7. They're a group of musicians just living out their dream of doing music. Apparently it has 3 spokespeople currently in the band but that's an inside joke between us. They usually rehearse at the Mon Bojouc community center for their up comings gigs, Some rehearsals take up about an hour or so, they've basically mastered practicing in about 15 minutes or so. They indeed leave up to their name " Young Gifted and Talented, as they continue their journey as musicians we just leave them with this keep pushing, because all of you are going in the right direction. You all are the future of music in the Virgin Islands and you all decide after school to go your separate ways just know that you've started something great and hopefully there are others that will follow in your footsteps.

The History of Carnival in the United States Virgin Islands

During the 1600 and 1700s European from Spain, Portugal, France, England and Denmark seized the islands of the Caribbean. The Europeans tried to duplicate their celebrations and festivals with their islands which they had colonized. The celebrations included religious holidays, a few balls, parties, home visits and street parades. Europeans sought out the islands mainly to develop plantations, those who were enslaved were brought from Africans and Central Africa. They also brought celebrations and their own traditions which were familiar, but hard to copy. Their festivals were based on a God or spirits for passage in their community and the change of seasons.

St. Thomas Carnival Recap 2019

Our experience in St. Thomas was an unbelievable one there were new experiences everyday we spent there. There were boat rides jam twice or even 3 times during the season, the clubs were always popping with different themed activities. Then came jouvert morning although most had their concerns about that morning the powder, rum, water and people thought differently. I admit it wasn't like the other jouvert mornings we're use to on St. Thomas, but nevertheless it was great. It was a star strutted jouvert with R. City's very own Theron, DPMNM owner Felix London, Mr. Sexy Dance Adam O, Sasso from the famous Poizon Band, Dj Avalanche, Dj Cypha, Bugz Bugs local rapper, and Mic Love local contender for Road March 2019. Some performers have been performing from the beginning of carnival and their still performing. It's a pleasure to see our artists so hardworking its truly inspiring. Children Parade was held the following day and the kids were so adorable with their properly coordinated routines. Adult's Day Parade was a different ball game although the routines were indeed properly coordinated, it was a big enjoyable party like end to an amazing carnival season. Today another breakfast fete was held this time with performances by a few international soca artists, such as Nailah Blackman, Farmer Nappy and Alison Haynes just to name a few. Looking forward to carnival 2020 until then we're wishing for carnival to come around again.
