Virgin Islands Featured Artist: Kita on Tha Track

Nakita Poleon (Kita on Tha Track) 27,was born and raised in the Virgin Islands. She's also a small time producer who has produced tracks for artist such as RudeBoy Jett, John B, Michonde, Etc. As a new artist she has faced a few challenges, one of the challenges is getting people to know about who she is and knowing her music. Kita isn't the most outgoing and social person, but she's very humble. She often keeps to herself, but is trying to break that cycle, and mold herself into a more assertive and confident artist. The journey to becoming an artist has been a hard one, but its getting easier. While being an artist is never easy, when you find your sound and persona its make it a hell of alot easier. Although it isn't certain what direction she would like to take her music, Kita wants to continue to create great content.

I'm no Lauren Hill with the dope verses when she does rap, I'm also no Cardi B when it comes to female rappers in today's standards, which basically puts me in a place to pioneer a new sound people aren't used to. -Kita

The first video for her song "Deja Vu," featured a great singer (Baby Musik), which was a dope experience in kita's words, it was also an amazing learning opportunity. It was a team effort. Most times so much happens behind the scenes the public eye doesn't see. There are people working together to make the project a success. The extraordinary team we have to thank for the marvelous video, are Nyah Lyan of Aftertainment, brainstorming ideas and plotting out the story line for the video turning her vision into a reality. Her mentor, teammate and friend Junior Sparks played the leading man, he also gave advice behind the scenes while she shot her scenes. The YGT team and the YGT models Christine and Naya assisted as well. Every production has hiccups, theirs was the pandemic in which we are now faced with. For a minute she worried that it would put a damper on what they've been working on. In the end everything was better than expected. The artist was so impressed she's ready to take on her next video project.

As far as new music, Kita on Tha Track, has a few tracks ready to go, featuring other female artists who can't be disclosed at this time. The other female artists featuring on the tracks are the ones that she appreciates and have been rocking with her from day one. There are also other projects that she's began since the corona descended upon us, something good came from all of this despair and that is the time the artist needs to be creative and connect with other artists.

Motivation behind the raps she spits comes from different experiences and feelings. Life experiences can be anything, from something seen on tv, something that was read or seen and created an impact or feeling. The type of mood that she's in, would set the tone of the type of song she'd choose to create.

The writing process is weird in her opinion, because she usually listens to a beat and tries to feel the vibe its giving. She then goes into many of her life experiences to create the story, based on what she's feeling. Kita free styles for a bit to find the flow, if its good only then does she begin the process. Believe it or not the place she feels the most comfortable doing her writing is her car. Every song she's written so far has been in there, Kita plays the beat as loud as humanly possible to surround herself with the inspiration she needs to think of new ideas. Once the song is completed she heads to the studio and goes to work.

Often times we refer too new artist as upcoming, Kita on Tha Track has already arrived and is quickly proving herself. She has placed beats together and surprised everyone who have come across her as an artist. Learn more about Kita on Social media @KitaonThaTrack on Facebook, soundcloud and Youtube.
