Black History Month

Black History Month, the beginning of February marks the start of a tradition that began in 1976 during the Jim Crow Era. This Month we recognize all of the many achievements that our people have fought so hard to accomplish. We honor Pioneers, Civil Right Leaders, along with activists. Black people have overcome so much over the years to get to where we are today. During the 17th & 18th century our people were taken from Africa, to America this was known as the Middle Passage. During this time many slaves either died from the overly crowded ship, or abandoned ship and jumped into the ocean because they didn't want to live a life of slavery. Now in this day and age we still aren't seen as equals, some even fear us and see as a threat. Nevertheless we still continue to push forward.
