Featured Artist of the Week: Rudy "Rudy Live"
With so many artist out there it's hard to keep up, but this talented individual is a rare talent . This week we're introducing "Rudy" a Soca artist from our sister island St. Thomas and she's a force of nature. She began her journey with R&B, then dabbled in Reggae, and Dance hall. The reason behind the change was simple the influence of her father being DJ Calabash. Other influences came from the various traveling this artist did from the mainland back to the Virgin Islands and then back to the mainland. Atlanta has a hand to play in where Rudy's career began. She then returned home and began her Soca journey, she was baptized into Soca officially in Tortola by " Lincoln Ward." Come Closer was her first song which could be labeled as R&B. Rudy's mother is from St. Thomas and her Dad is from Antigua, she is from the island of St. Thomas. She's always wanted to be an entertainer from a young age, she loved dancing and that love turned into a love of music. Rudy began writing poetry in school and story telling on a competition level, that was a motivation she needed to be the performer she is today. She has opened for big names such as Ja Cure, Tyrese. She has even worked with Machel Montano. Rudy kept working hard to get where she is today, again one of the few female artist we have in the Virgin Islands. Rudy is leaving her mark, she has two songs out right now " Built For This, and "Push it." Each of these songs are progressing on Rudy's, YouTube channel as we speak. " Push It" music video was done on her birthday. As an artist you have keep pushing and remain relevant. Every artist goes through alot to get to where they are today. The fans often see them, but has no idea what they go through to get the success they need. We look forward to seeing what she has in store for us the fans.
