St. John Virtual Carnival:Drive for Drive Review
The Virgin Islands witnessed history being made before their very eyes on Thursday evening. Two music geniuses Swanks aka Marvelus and Daddy Jones shared the stage for the very first time. Drive for Drive which is the Virgin Islands edition of the versus battle, placed Swanks and Daddy Jones going head to head playing their favorite Virgin Islands hits. However it wasn't a competition to see who's the better music producer or musician is. In some ways it can be best described as a living legend passing on the torch to legend in the making. The night began with a warm up, before they really got into it. Daddy Jones began his set with a AXA Band song a band from the BVI. Swanks then lead with Pick it up by Kylo and R.City. Daddy Jones then threw a Jam Band hitter into the mix, which was the highlight of a jouvert back then. They fed of each other's energy for the entire evening, each with encouraging words to the different genres of music which were presented. Swanks played one of Stylee band's most famous songs "Big Jam" which was produced by him. Daddy Jones dropped a song by by Xtashaun Band "This is why i'm hot" although we're unclear if that's the title of the song. Daddy Jones then made it clear that this is not a competition, one of the reasons being the generational differences between the music. The Riddim for Riddim segment came Daddy Jones took center stage to show off his dancing skills. Jones came back just as strong with the old school Riddims. The two Music Producers fed of each other's energy for the entire evening and it was a great night for music representation in the Virgin Islands. Daddy Jones took us back to music some of us would hear growing up, that our parents would play on repeat. Swanks brought us from past to present with hits we haven't heard in a minute. Truly an astonishing moment between the two and the fans agreed in the comments, at some point in time again this needs to happen or even inspire past and present musicians, bands and singers, let the world hear the power the Virgin Islands wield in their hands.
