Black History Month
Black History Month is Celebrated from February 1st to February 28th each year. Black History Month was first proposed by black educators and the Black United Students at Kent State University in February 1969. African Americans or Black Americans have been making significant change over the years.
A few heroes who contributed to black history are as followed:
Martin Luther King Jr.-Civil Rights Leader
Katherine Johnson-American Mathematician
Robert Smalls-Slave who led an uprising that freed people being held on confederate transport ship.
Lewis Latimer-Inventor of the extended life of a light bulb.
Dorothy Height- God mother of the Women's Right Movement
We may have a long road ahead of us, but we've already come so far as a people. Too many of our own have lost their lives because of race, they've been discriminated against for the color of their skin and that's just completely unacceptable. The one thing I'm definitely certain of is that we're resilient and nothing or no one can ever change that. We're here to make a difference and leave our mark, everyone may not agree with it, but that's the world we live in.
