Virgin Islands Featured Artist: Michonde

Michonde Delauney is a 17 year old senior attending the St. Croix Educational Complex High School. She's the lead singer of a very influential band in the community. We've been following this artist for some time now and she's an incredible singer with amazing vocals. Every performance we've attended, Michonde has handled it with grace and elegance. We asked if she'd ever pictured being a singer in a band, this was her response. I didn't picture myself as a singer for a band. I just knew that singing was always a hobby of mine. For those who aren't aware she's apart of YGT The Band. YGT The Band stands for Young, Gifted and Talented and was created to encourage the youth of community to take advantage of their gifts. While she prepares for a performance she pictures herself giving it her all. Michonde has quite a few performances under her belt, when she takes the stage, this artist can hold her own whether the band is performing the set along with her or she's having a solo performance. She has been an active artist for over 4 years and hopefully this is just the beginning and we see much more of this artist. Her favorite performance was the first Motown Show. At this performance she portrayed Tina Turner and absolutely killed the performance, why wouldn't she kill it she portrayed one of the most iconic and talented woman in history. The lights blew at the party,however it didn't affect anything the party continued as it had before. Ms. Dulauney considers Spice as her inspiration (A Jamaican Dance hall Artist). Spice is versatile and continues to push herself to become better and perfect her craft, and just as her inspiration she continues to do the same as a young artist. She carries herself with pose and grace and that's going to take her very far in her career. She doesn't do it for the fame, or to have her name known to the public she does it because she genuinely enjoys it. We hope to see more of Michonde over the course of her career.
