Recap: Virtual Village Nights "Cultural Night"

It was truly a vibe like no other as Crucian Christmas Festival has went virtual this year. On Christmas Day we witnessed Cultural Night, the first night of Virtual Village Nights. The evening began with an introduction by reigning Miss St.Croix Izhani Rosa. Followed by an opening performance by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, but before beginning their performance, we received a brief introduction by Ms. Pat Browne on their musical selections. We have to admit this has not been an ideal year for any of us, but were grateful for something like virtual nights to bring us some entertainment from the comfort of our homes. They began with a selection dedicated to the Christmas season. For those of us who are currently here in the Virgin Islands, it gives us a taste of normalcy and for those who are currently abroad and tuned in we hope their performance reminded you that all is not lost in the world as yet. They played hits such as Angels we have heard on high, Santo Class, a song about corona and the importance of social distancing, & Mama make the Johnny cake Christmas Coming. This was followed by Dj Swain who provided us some famous hits from back in the day to present day. After a brief intermission local heart trobe "Kruziano," who performed some of his famous hits such as "World" " Esta Vida," "Neagicon," & Love it or Hate it graced the stage. The last performance of the night was by none other than 9 time road march champions Blackest & The Fusion Band. Lead singer Blackest sang hits such as Buss Chest Island, Jam Just Start, Kill me Wid De Wine, Dip, Wuk up with 2 hands up and Carnival Zombie. One of the original members of the band graced the stage and brought us back to 2012-2013 where they released We Want Jam. Its safe to say the first night of Virtual Village Nights was a smashing success. Shamari Haynes Assistant Director for the Division of Festivals for the district of St. Croix closed out the evening with a few closing remarks. Stay Tuned for Reggae Night on Jan 1.
